Previously it was so easy to buy a TV.
A couple of years, you just walked into a store, selected a known brand and screen size, and depending on the size of your TV, you'd probably take it home, plug it into a cable box, and you were done.
Television screens today are becoming more sophisticated. When you walk into an electronics store, the seller will be happy to start using words such as plasma, LCD, 720p, 1080p, HDMI, Blu-Ray, refresh rate and HDTV. It maySound intimidating.
No cause for concern. This short guide covers the basic information you need to buy a flat screen TV.
Perhaps the biggest decision as to which size flat screen to buy?
When you sit for more than five meters in front of the screen to plan, you must buy at least a 32-inch screen, the benefits of high definition television to take, also known as HDTV. HDTV's run at much higher resolutions than the old Analog TV and require larger screens.
The second choice you make when buying a flat screen TV is whether to buy a plasma or LCD screen. Plasma screens are based on a technology similar to fluorescent lighting. A gas flows through the glass and this allows for better motion detection and angle than an LCD TV.
LCD screens use the same technology as flat-screen computer monitors and display in finer detail than plasma.
Until recently, the rule if you planwatch lots of sports, get a plasma, and if you get a computer and / or game console into your TV plug Plan an LCD display.
But the rules have changed. Refresh rates, the rate can change with a picture on an LCD screen is improving. Early LCD television had 50 – to 60-megahertz (MHz), frame rates, such as a computer monitor. Slow frame rates are for watching CNN in order, but lousy for the display of basketball. To get rid of the emotion, LCD monitors are nowWatch available with 120MHz and 240MHz refresh rate, the quick action on the LCD TVs is as smooth as plasma screens.
Not to be outdone, plasma screens have become sharper, but the biggest change in plasma TVs is the price. A 47 – to 50-inch plasma TV will cost several hundred dollars less than an LCD screen with a 120MHz to 240MHz refresh rate.
You must also decide whether to buy the TV 720p or 1080p. These figures refer to horizontal pixelcounts. The higher the number of pixels, the sharper the picture. Although based on a recent visit to Best Buy, both looked great and I had a hard time all the difference. If you only have broadcast TV to watch a 720p screen plan is good, but if you are planning high-definition and Blu-Ray discs, 1080p, you want to take advantage of the higher pixel count.
So, what is better LCD or Plasma?
I suggest planning a visit to a large electronics store like Best Buy or J & R, and seeboth LCD and plasma and decide for yourself. Ask the seller to different types of programming, showing how a football game and one person news on CNN. If you plan on DVDs, you ask them to play a Blu-Ray disc and see how it looks. Also, look at the screen from different angles. LCD screens are to distort images if they are not considered straight. But I personally see no distortion on an LCD screen, when I saw it at a 45 degreeAngle.
